On Saturday 3rd of May we held our inaugural Dinner Dance at the Italian Social Club of Werribee. The evening was impeccably MC’d by our very own John Markovic who welcomed our very special guest speaker, A/Prof Michael Sullivan, Head of Neuro-Oncology and Solid Tumours at the Children’s Cancer Centre here at the RCH. Michael spoke of the inroads that have been made in cancer care with a now 82% survival rate. This still means that 18 children out of every 100 still die within five years of diagnoses. This rate must be improved. The philosophy of the Children’s Cancer Centre is ‘The care of children with cancer should be led by research and should lead to research.’
The night included silent auctions, a grand auction, a raffle and a great nights dancing to the band ‘Controversy’.
We would like to thank James Antonio (auctioneer) and our group of volunteers who all helped make the night such a huge success.
We are ecstatic to announce that we raised $15000 on the night which takes our tally up past the $50000 mark for our first goal of $80,000. Cancer Crusaders are committed to ‘funding the fight’ against childhood cancer.
